Britain is still a country for a very old actor and his beautiful voice called Joss Ackland



Sidney Edmond Jocelyn Ackland, better known as 'Joss', is 84 years old and playing King George V in the play of 'The King's Speech' Wyndham's Theatre in London.

The publicity blurb lists the many theatre, television and film productions in which he has taken part over the last 60 years, ranging from 'Falstaff’ in Henry IV; to ‘Captain Hook’ in Peter Pan, ‘Long John Silver’ in Treasure Island;  ‘Peron’ in Evita
and ‘C.S.Lewis’ in Shadowlands,

I remember seeing him in the black and white tv series, 'The Indian Tales of Rudyard Kipilng' which was broadcast when I was 17 and he was 36 in 1964. Here he is as the newspaper editor William Stevens with the 25 year old Ian McKellen, on the right, making his television debut :
